Chupacabra, The Hunger

The Chupacabra (Spanish pronunciation: [choo-pa-'-ka-bɾa], from the Spanish word chupar meaning “to suck” and cabra for “goat”. Literally meaning: “goat sucker”). A legendary cryptid rumored to inhabit parts of the Americas. It is associated more recently with sightings of an allegedly unknown animal in Puerto Rico (where these sightings were first reported in 1997). Since, the little guy has acquired frequent flyer miles because he has been seen in Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Nicaragua, Honduras, Costa Rica, Guatemala, the United States and once mistakenly in India (the Monkey Man hoax).

The sightings have been especially focussed throughout Latin American communities and more predominately, around the now perilous Mexican-American border. The name comes from the animal’s reported habit of attacking and drinking the blood of livestock, especially goats.

Physical descriptions of the creature vary. Eyewitness sightings have been claimed as early as 1995 in Puerto Rico, and have since been reported as far north as Maine, and as far south as Chile. It is supposedly a heavy creature, the size of a small bear, with a row of spines reaching from the neck to the base of the tail.

Biologists and wildlife management officials view the Chupacabras as a contemporary legend. In essence. the Chupacanbra is to Latin America what Bigfoot and or the Sasquatch was to North America in the 70s and even recently.

In July 2010, an animal was killed and reported to be a Chupacabra, but found to be a coyote with a severe parasite infection. In October of that year, University of Michigan scientists theorized that parasite-riddled coyotoes (specifically the parasites responsible for scabies and mange) were likely the basis for the Chupacabra legend.

AVP LLC intends to capitalize on the legend by producing a small budget, high production value horror pick in the same style of “Jeepers Creepers”. To be filmed on location in Mexico and Texas in early Spring 2012.   The trailer and experimental scenes are already in production and slated for completion in the fall of 2011.  We intend to take this modern day mythological creature and transform it into a genuine horror genre.

The creature was professionally researched by Vic Rosa and Brian Sipe.  The sketch above is one of the rough sketches that teases the anatomical characteristics of the final creature.  Its unlike anything seen since the creation of the FRANKENSTEIN. Our creature’s design is a closely guarded secret.  Designed by Brian Sipe, Co-creator of many award nominated special effects, including the Academy Awards. His credits include; Jim Carrey’s: the Mask, Mel Gibson’s: Passion of the Christ, Vanhelsing, Will Smith’s: Ali and hundreds of other well known Hollywood productions.
